Library donation acknowledgments and solicitations
The NAPO-NY Library catalog of books, audiotapes, CDs, videos, articles, pamphlets and DVDs continues to grow in breadth and depth because of the generosity of our members.
Any media about organizing and related fields are appreciated. Titles from the Certification recommended reading list are especially welcome.

NAPO-NY Referral System
When a prospective client calls the hotline or logs onto the website looking for a referral, they are given the names of three members who meet the criteria of what they need done in their specified geographic area. Referrals are given on a rotating basis, so the last person to get a referral goes to the bottom of the list and the next referral goes to the organizer who has been without a referral the longest.
Even if the inquiry asks for something special, like, "I only want someone who lives in my neighborhood" or "I want someone who doesn’t charge a lot," their request goes through the system just like everyone else's. Based on which work locations and specialties you checked off on your membership application, the computerized system does the matchmaking, searching specialties and checking dates, so there is no chance for favoritism or personal mischief on the part of an administrator.
When the prospective client gets a referral through our automated system, it is prefaced in part with the following message:
"Each Organizer sets her/his own fees and policies. A referral in no way implies endorsement of the services or products provided. NAPO-NY is not liable for the performance of any professional you choose to hire...Please choose organizing challenges that most concern you. Limiting your choices to three or fewer will provide you with the best results."
A prospective client may take the names they are given and call or e-mail the organizers immediately. Or that person can print them out and leave them buried on their desk for a few months. Or they can lose the email. Or they can call one organizer and decide they’re not really up to the task and not call the other two. Your name can be given out many times a month, but that does not mean you will actually get a call. We hope this clears up any confusion or misunderstandings.

BCPO Certification is a voluntary, industry-led effort that benefits the members of the organizing profession, as well as the public. It is a recognition of professionals who have met specific minimum standards, and proven through examination and client interaction that they possess the body of knowledge and experience required for certification. This program recognizes and raises industry standards, practices and ethics. For the public, while the CPO® designation is not an endorsement or recommendation, certification of professional organizers maximizes the value received from the products and services provided by a CPO®.
